ASICS Gt2000 Trail Review

This shoe is a version of the Gt2000 - but with a trail outersole. I'm often running around off-leash dog parks which, in Auckland, are usually volcanic cones. My usual choice of running shoe is the Gt2000, so when I had the opportunity to try the 2000 with the trail outersole, I was quite excited.
All of that chasing after the dog on rocky and sometimes slippery mountains was getting hard on my knees and led to a couple of near-sprains of the ankles.
I popped my orthotics into the shoes and set off up the mountain after a hail storm (!) The shoes were very comfortable and offered the right amount of support that is expected of the 2000, but also a little more flexibility from the trail outer. This meant I had much better grip, as my foot was better able to adapt to the sudden changes in the uneven terrain.
This update was lighter than my previous Gt2000, which also felt great when I took them for a short run on pavement earlier in the week.
All in all I loved the trail shoe – it is a good alternative to some other, heavier trail-style shoes. I think it would be beneficial to anyone running in the Gt2000 who wants a shoe for cross-training up and down mountains. The colour is nothing short of fabulous, too - black camo and raspberry!
